The plant belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is grown on fields in Bulgaria. The entire aerial mass of the plant is taken for processing, while the coarser woody parts are discarded and do not take part in the extraction. Capitate and peltate glandular trichomes grow on the calyx of the flowers, and in sage they collect the aromatic substances while still in the living tissue. Steam distillation is behind the yield, so the aromatic profile remains close to that of the fresh raw material and retains its herbal character. The liquid is clear and uniform throughout its entire volume. The transparency is evident when viewed in daylight. The color ranges from colorless to slightly yellowish, and the light shade is due to the pigments that the plant tissue releases during extraction with steam.
